PENGERTIAN DAN CONTOH THE PAST TENSE

There are 4 kinds of the Past Tense, they  are :
a)       The Simple Past Tense
b)      The Past Continuos Tense
c)       The Past Perfect Tense
d)      The Past Perfect Continous Tense

A.   The Simple Past Tense : (s + v2 + o )
We use the simple past tense for the actions that we do in the past.
We ussualy use the words : yesterday; the day before yesterday; last…,…ago; one day; once upon time; the day other day; recently; formerly; this morning etc.
  1. My father crossed over the bridge by motorcycle last morning
    (Ayah saya menyebrangi jembatan dengan sepeda motor kemarin pagi)
  2. I sent you a letter a month ago
    (aku mengirimimu sebuah surat sebulan yang lalu)
  3. You left me alone in the middle of the highway yesterday
    (kamu meninggalkan aku di tengah
    jalan raya kemarin)
  4. feri sang in his last concert at 2011
    (feri bernyanyi di konser terakhirnya pada tahun 2011).
  5. My sister cooked fried chicken for my birthday party last week
    (saudara perempuanku memasak ayam goreng untuk acara ul
    ang tahunku minggu yang lalu)
  6. Sandi won the regent election Jakarta several months ago
    (Jokowi memenangkan pemilihan president beberapa bulan yang lalu)
  7. Last week my mother bought a new dress.
(minggu lalu ibu saya membeli baju baru)
  1. You drank too much beer last night
(Anda minum terlalu banyak bir tadi malam)
  1. I and my family moved to Yaman last month
    (Aku dan keluargaku pindah ke Yaman bulan lalu).
  2. My son woke up late this morning
(anak laki-laki saya bangun telat pagi hari ini)
B.    The Past Continuous Tense : (s + was/were + verb-ing +O )
We use the past continuous tense tense for two or more actions that happen at the same time in the past
1.                  I was sleeping when the car crashed my home last night.
(aku sedang tidur ketika mobil itu menabrak rumahku kemarin malam).
2.                  Judika and Aliya were singing together in a TV show at 9 o’clock last night.
(Judika dan Aliya sedang bernyanyi bersama di sebuah pertunjukan TV pada jam 9 kemarin malam).
3.                  The rain was pouring heavy when I arrived at home this morning.
(Hujan sedang turun dengan derasnya ketika aku sampai di rumah pagi ini)
4.                  I am sorry I didn’t know that you knocked at my door yesterday because I was listening to the music.
(maaf, saya tidak mendengar kamu mengetuk pintu kemarin karena aku sedang mendengarkan musik)
5.                  She was reading a book while the library was closed.
(dia
(pr) sedang membaca buku ketika perpustakaan ditutup)
6.                  That building was being built last year when I passed last year, but now it’s already broken down
(bangunan itu sedang dibangun waktu aku lewat tahun lalu tapi sekarang sudah dirobohkan)
7.                  The music stopped when the dancers were dancing on the stage
(musik berhenti ketika para penari sedang menari di atas panggung).
8.                  While I was writing the email, the computer suddenly went off
(ketika aku sedang menulis email, tiba-tiba komputer mati)
9.                  The passengers were screaming when the pilot reported that the plane got a trouble with its wings.
(Penumpang menjerit ketika pilot mengabarkan bahwa sayap pesawat bermasalah).
10.              Micle  was caught by KPK when he was sleeping with a young girl in a hotel several weeks ago. (Micle ditangkap KPK ketika sedang tidur bersama dengan wanita muda di sebuah hotel beberapa minggu yang lalu).
C.      The past perfect tense : ( s + had + v3 + o )
We use the past perfect tense for two or more actions that happen successvely (one after the other) in the past.
1.      I had locked the door before I left my home.
(aku sudah mengunci pintu sebelum aku meninggalkan rumah)
2.      Mrs. Smith had sent me an email before she called me yesterday
(Ibu Smith telah mengirimi sebuah email sebelum dia menelphonku)
3.        She broke my heart after I had given everything I have
(dia mengancurkan hatiku setelah aku memberikan semua yang ku miliki)
4.        Having killed that girl, John banished her body in to a cliff
(setelah membunuh gadis itu, John membuang mayatnya ke jurang)
5.        Aliya has beauty, voice and charisma to burn. No wonder the audience applauded her before she had sung a note.
(Aliya memiliki kecantikan, suara dan karisma menyala-nyala. Tidak heran penonton bertepuk tangan sebelum ia bernyanyi).
6.        That all I could give to her, before she died last year
(hanya itu yang bisa aku berikan padanya sebelum ia meninggal tahun lalu)
7.        The truck had crashed a boy before it finally stopped
(truk itu menabrak seorang bocah sebelum akhirnya berhenti)
8.        My parents had already eaten by the time I got home
(orang tuaku sudah makan ketika aku pulang ke rumah)
9.        When your son was in the junior high school, Had you lived there?
(ketika anakmu masih SMP, apakah kamu tinggal di sana?)
10.    How long had you watched TV when I called you?
(berapa lama kamu sudah menonton TV ketika aku memanggilmu)

4.       The Past Perfect Continuous Tense : ( s + had been + verb-ing +o)
We use this tense for the actions that has been happening for some time when another action happens in the past.
I had been studying Math for 3 hours when she invited me to refresh my mind.
2. She had been skyping with a foreigner since I went shopping two hours ago.
3. Dhila had been teaching toddlers for 2 hours when I asked her help.
4. I had been staying here for 4 years when you moved here.
5. Ron had been loving Harmione since he met her for the first time.
6. You hadn’t been studying English for 2 weeks, had you?
7. When her mom left her, she had been sleeping for 7 hours.
8. Fikri had been sobbing alone since Fitri left him.
9. How long had you been washing your car?
10. I had been washing my car for 45 minutes.
